Car inspection at the Rustavi market

Car Select works at the Rustavi auto market on trading days. It's Georgia's biggest sales floor, home to both the best deals and most of the problem cars.

How does the Rustavi car market work?

The main trading happens on Saturday and Sunday. By early morning several thousand cars fill the lot, and a large share of them is fresh auction stock from the US that has not been through a single Georgian workshop yet.

Most sellers here are dealers, not the previous owners. The history you hear is the one that helps close the sale. The only way to check it is with instruments and databases, and that has to happen before you hand over a deposit.

The other factor is pace. On a weekend you are not the only buyer looking at that car, and the seller uses it to deny you time. Our expert works in 40–60 minutes and gives a verdict on the spot, so the rush stops being an argument.

Questions

What do people ask most?

Can I call an expert out on the trading day itself?

Yes, our specialists work the market at weekends. It is better to warn us the day before: in peak season Saturday fills up fast. If a car catches your eye out of nowhere, call anyway: one of our experts is usually already on the lot.

The seller won't let us plug in a scanner. Is that a bad sign?

Almost always. Refusing diagnostics with no clear reason is the surest hint that the control units have something to hide. We record the refusal in the report and advise walking away.

How many cars can be seen in one visit?

One car with a full check per visit. If you have shortlisted several, the 'expert for a day' format works better: the specialist stays with you for the whole trading day and inspects as many cars as you can get through.

Are you connected to the sellers at the market?

No. We take no commission from sellers and no cut of the deal. Our only income is what you pay us, so we have nothing to gain by talking you into a particular car.
